M&A #35: Iphi

A second mix from Playtime res Iphi today, on a glorious day 17 of lockdown. As profiled in her last mix for us, she took this whole DJ thing up almost upsettingly recently for how good she is, and here donates a bundle of warm and sunny energy to our ears. Her selections really never leave anything in the locker (mixing Objekt and Oumar Souleyman!!) and the steady pump that joins much of the mix together is definitely one to see you through a sunny afternoon looking out the window. The influence of her idol, Midland, is clear in this smooth half hour featuring a couple of his creations, alongside Four Tet, Octo Octa and The Stone Roses.

How did you record the mix?

Serato pro. Lazy but effective.

[Editor note: anyone choosing software etc. Serato is certainly effective, but not a lazy choice at all imo.]

What were you trying to do with it?

Everything feels a bit apocalyptic currently, so essentially I made a mix with all my vibiest tracks as a soundtrack to that, with (hopefully) a mood lift towards the end.

What’s coming up for you in the future?

A lot of mixing in my room. I've been trying to branch out genre-wise and there have been some very questionable hip hop/dnb combinations but it's a good way to quarantine. Hopefully I'll be able to play over summer, but other than that waiting on next year :/
