Welcome to Milk & Alcohol, a new mix series for DJs from Cambridge. The way it will work is twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, we’ll upload a new mix by one of the many fabulous DJs that you may have heard at all of the favourite Cambridge nights out (We have mixes from artists seen at Turf, Arcsoc, Avant Gardening, Playtime, OOX, Grandma Groove - you name it). Along with the mix, we’ll have a chat with the artist about how they got into DJing, what they were trying to show off in the mix, what music they’re into at the moment and they’re opinions on dance music as a whole, in Cambridge and elsewhere. Catch a summary of both weekly interviews in Varsity every Friday, and the full interviews and track lists here on the days the mixes are released. 

The club scene in Cambridge is often guilty of appearing overly pretentious, but under the surface there are people who just love music and love dancing. Milk & Alcohol was set up as a way of showcasing the diversity of Cambridge’s electronic music scene, giving you a chance to listen to and get to know the DJs we dance away the hours with in the many sweatboxes dotted around the city. If you’re looking for a way into dance music, hopefully the mixes can introduce you to stuff you’ve not heard before. If you’re wanting to get into DJing, the route these people took might be inspiration to give it a go yourself. 

Historically, the electronic music community was built on inclusivity, acceptance and a collective love of music. This is what we want to promote with this project, so however you listen to the mixes, in the library, in your room or anywhere else (it might be Easter term but you are allowed to do other things too) we hope you enjoy them and feel inspired to search out, make and share more music like it.
